Carlene Whitfield Davis’ volunteer service began in 1989, after teaching in the St. Louis Public Schools for 37 years. She started at the Mathews Dickey Boys Club through their after-school tutoring program. For 28 years, she has tutored at Simmons, Lexington, Cote Brilliante elementary schools and Washington Montessori School.
She has been an AARP Volunteer since 1989, serving as State Training Coordinator, Community Advocate, Speakers Bureau, Leadership Council and the Executive Council. She was honored in 2008 for the Ethel Percy Andrus Award.
Many other volunteer programs include the Knight ADRC Memory & Aging Project, the Second Presbyterian Church, the Friends Board of St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Joint Venture-Central Reform Congregation and Metropolitan Churches of St. Louis. Carlene was also selected as Remarkable Ageless St. Louisan in 2008.
