Creative Comfort

Julie C. Treloar co-founded DenimQuilts, Inc., a nonprofit that provides handmade quilts to individuals facing hardship, including foster children, refugees and grieving mothers. Raised in a small Missouri farm town, she learned to sew from her mother and grew up with a strong sense of community responsibility. Years later, as her own children approached adulthood, she returned to those early lessons and began creating quilts for others in need.

Since 2009, DenimQuilts has engaged more than 50 volunteers and delivered nearly 5,000 quilts across Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. Many are personalized for foster children, offering comfort and a sense of belonging. Through thoughtful craftsmanship and community collaboration, Julie’s work brings dignity, care, and connection to those who need it most.
