Teka Childress

Community Betterment

Teka Childress started volunteering at the Karen Catholic Worker house when she was 20-years-old and joined the community one year later. She lived and worked at that house of hospitality for women and children for over 20 years and started a community of previously homeless families call the Dorothy Day Co-housing Community. She began working for BJC Behavioral Health Services 15 years ago as an outreach worker to unhoused persons with mental illness and founded the St. Louis Winter Outreach in 2005. She is married to Michael Baldwin.
